end of semester

Finally made it to the end of first semester :)

and what a roller coaster ride it has been, taking on board valuable knowledge where it opened up a whole new perspective of design for me

and here is some notes that I've typed in for Fundamentals and Design History:

the first emperor exhibition

on the 6/2/2011 I visited the Art Gallery NSW for "The First Emperor China's Entombed Warriors"

I was amazed by the amount of craftsmanship, skills and time taken to build this Empire and the exceptional detail of each individual piece of work from chipping, carving and moulding  of earth's materials such as clay used in the terracotta army, to hand painting each one in life-size.

it is not only these terracotta armies but bells, plates, horse chariots, animals, jewellery and swords

what was more, was the creation of the afterlife for the First Emperor --the Eternal City, creating a whole new layer/world for him.

TED talk ideas worth spreading

Fiorenzo Omenetto: Silk, the ancient material of the future | Video on TED.com

is an interesting clip about silk and the power of technology which enables us to enhance this ancient material's properties which can lead to a whole new bracket of goods that were not available to us before.

Fiorenzo omenetto: "Silk, the ancient material of the future " a new old material that could professionally impact high-technology materials science, medicine and global health"

heres the notes I've jotted down when watching the video:

ABC Radio 'By Design' Podcast

In the Mind of the Designer: agIdeas forum

talks about what goes on inside these designers and how their background influence impacted their design ideas  and how the "STORY TELLING" is an key  factor in the means of communication and connection.

Design is not necessarily tangible for example: ARG -Alternative reality game --is an idea of the movie interpreted through a reality game. this allows more interaction with the audience, where they become apart of the story and "beyond the screen".

these "story tellers" interact with mythology, people, public space and the new and old

animation movie

the last lecture for fundamentals-- where we viewed each group's movement animation, which had to capture the essence of the movement through lighting, music, originality, layout/composition and the overall execution.

my group was given "rest" as a movement while others had roll, spin, swing, skip, soar
